I am a tour guide with a passion for ancient Irish history and mythology. I am based in West Wicklow and specialize in the area of Kilranelagh which has many interesting ancient sites including an old graveyard, stone circle, ringfort and three sites associated with St Brigid.

The area around Baltinglass and Kilranelagh in West Wicklow is full of little known wonderful ancient history. Just in Kilranelagh itself, there is an ancient graveyard which contains Sam McAllister’s grave the Gates of Heaven and St Brigid’s well. Close by is also a stone circle, ringfort, Ogham Stone, views of Keadeen’s giant hill figures and Brusselstown ringfort, and St Brigid’s chair and headstone. In the beautiful setting of the foothills of the Wicklow mountains, these sites are associated with fascinating history and mythology. A walk around Kilranelagh will provide a chance to get away into the countryside for fresh air, exercise, beautiful scenery and a visit to many intriguing ancient sites.

Testimonial:

I recently spent a magical morning on one of Tir na Glass’s walking tours on Kilranelagh. Over the course of two and half hours Nicky, our guide, led us along ancient ways, providing us with tantalising glimpses of the layers of our past, still visible in this wild and beautiful landscape. We encountered a medieval graveyard, Celtic crosses and monuments, a holy well, a stone circle, a cairn in the middle of a forest, and a forgotten ring fort complete with its own ogham stone and much more along the way. Enroute Nicky shared her marvellous store of knowledge about these ancient places and the folklore that still clings to them. All told this was a wonderful experience. Highly recommended. Thank you.
